The first will be Thursday, July 29th at 10:30am at the Holiday Inn Express in Forest City; the second will be Wednesday, August 4th at 6pm at The Old Rock Cafe in Chimney Rock. Learn to play the “only American instrument” using traditional strumming and flat-picking techniques. No previous musical experience is necessary. Led by Ken Schoewe of the Mountain Music School in Hendersonville, NC. Instruments are provided.
John Mason, acclaimed hammered dulcimer artist and the Park’s featured musician, will teach participants all about this traditional folk instrument. This is a great family-friendly activity for beginners and intermediates. Limited number of instruments available.

In Forest City one Saturday every August, thousands of car lovers cruise in to fill downtown with their love of Cool Rides. This year will be no different. Saturday, August 21st from Noon until 10PM, over 500 car entries are expected to line the streets of Forest City in what is arguably NC’s largest car show. It’s also part of the Endless Summer Event Series in Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Foothills.
